Biography

The Finnish Lyric Dramatic Soprano Reetta Haavisto is known for her beautifully sonorous voice with it’s buoyant, luminous tone.
She has studied at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and in 2013 she graduated from the Sibelius Academy with an honours degree and a diploma in singing. Her teachers have included Irja Auroora, Pirkko Törnqvist-Paakkanen, Juha Karvonen and Raija Kemppainen. Reetta Haavisto has also studied Lied repertoire with Heikki Pellinen, Ulrich Rademacher and Helmut Deutch. She has a wide repertoire of Lied music including J. Sibelius, S. Rachmaninov and R. Strauss. Reetta Haavisto has recorded Rachmaninov’s Lied music with pianist Jouni Somero.

Spring 2011 Reetta Haavisto made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in the role of Madama Cortese in Il viaggio a Reims. Season (2013-2014) she appeared in performances of Don Pasquale (Norina) and in Turandot (Liù) at the Finnish National Opera. December 2014 she sang as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. Summer 2014 Reetta Haavisto made her debut at Savonlinna Opera Festival in the novel production of the Aulis Sallinen’s Kullervo (Sister). May 2015 she appeared as a soprano soloist in the J. Sibelius’ Kullervo symphony in Bern with maestro Dima Slobodeniouk and baritone Tommi Hakala. January 2016 she appeared as Donna Elvira in the new production of the Don Giovanni in Jyväskylä, Finland. June 2016 Reetta Haavisto sang as a soprano soloist in the Verdi’s Requiem in Eurajoki BelCanto. December 2016 she appeared as a soprano soloist in Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony in the opening gala of the Comic Opera Helsinki. March 2017 Reetta Haavisto sang the title role of the Arabella in the Aino Ackté festival in Helsinki. Recent engagements have included Freia (Das Rheingold), Helmwige (Die Walküre) and Liù (Turandot) in the Finnish National Opera. Future engagements include Gutrune in the Finnish National Opera’s new production of Götterdämmerung.

In the 2010 Lappeenranta Singing Competition she was awarded a special prize. In spring 2015 Reetta Haavisto was awarded a lied prize in the 7th Internationaler Lions Gesangswettbewerb des Opernfestivals Gut Immling. This season 2017 she made her debut at the Mariinsky Theatre.
