Bass-baritone Niklas Spångberg has performed widely in opera stages and as an orchestral soloist. In the Finnish National Opera Spångberg has appeared since 2001, when he sung the role of Sid in the Fanciulla del West by Puccini. In Savonlinna Opera Festival Niklas Spångberg made his stage debut as Mitjukha in Musorgski’s Boris Godunov. Spångberg has also appeared in the operas of Stockholm, Tampere, Turku, Vaasa, Pori and Oulu. Internationally Spångberg has performed in Russia, Germany and Czech Republic.
Niklas Spångberg first sung as a boy in the Choir Cantores Minores in 1977. After he graduated as an engineer in 1996 from the Helsinki University of Technology he started his singing studies in Sibelius Academy solo department under Erkki Rajamäki. He has also periodically studied under Jaakko Ryhänen, Irina Gavrilovici, Raimo Laukka and in the Master class of Enrico Facini.
Spångberg’s roles include many famous bass roles, such as Filippo (Don Carlos), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Colline (La Bohème), Gremin (Evgeny Onegin), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) and Il Commendatore (Don Giovanni). Spångberg has also sung as a bass soloist in the choir works of Händel, Bach, Telemann, Mozart, Beethoven and Puccini.
