Reviews

”Hölttä played a sophisticated and sensitive role as Christine Daaé and the soprano radiated with bright colors. The love theme of the piece sounded beautifully interpreted by Hölttä. The duet between Hölttä and Rusanen at the end of the performance was the most impressive moment of the musical.”

”Once in New York and twice at the National Opera before this, and I have to praise that Marika Hölttä was without a doubt the best Christine I’ve heard or seen! Just the right amount of classical and pop, alternating lightly, and captivating animation!”

”Marika Hölttä is a star”

She came into her own in her opera arias, but also as a microphone singer and a believable voice as an interpreter of music. — Whether the audience understood the arias or not, Marika Hölttä blew the bank with her interpretations of them. — Surely, cleanly and effortlessly, the sound of the air enchanted up to the highest notes. Finally, Hölttä’s throwing herself into the theatrical part of Cunegonde made the audience go crazy. There was no end to the applause. From this opportunity, we can proudly say later that we heard Marika Hölttä when she was not yet famous.

When the Queen of the Night’s aria shakes the internal organs

…But then… The Queen of the Night. Oh my goodness. A friend who knows opera better described after the performance that the Queen of the Night is like the expected star of a hockey game, a legendary stick magician who comes onto the field only at the right moment and scores a goal every time. And leaves accompanied by applause.

That’s exactly what Marika Hölttä does in Oulu theater’s Magic Flute. She floats (literally) onto the stage, steals the undivided attention of the entire audience – and sings. Good heavenly father and almighty – she sings so that my insides clench, my breath catches and water squeezes out of my eyes. When the aria ends, my heart beats empty a few times before I dare to breathe again.
