Biography

Jussi Vänttinen is a Finnish baritone and the winner of the 2019 Lappeenranta National Singing Competition. His performances in both opera and concert venues have earned a lot of praise for his intensity and physicality and his ability to be in contact with the audience.

Mr. Vänttinen received his MMus at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

In the autumn of 2019 he made his house debut in the Finnish National Opera as Morales in Carmen. Over the past few years, Jussi has performed the roles of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia, Starveling in A Midsummer Night´s Dream, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, Fiorello in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Ben in The Telephone, Gunther in Die lustigen Nibelungen and title role in Don Giovanni.

Jussi Vänttinen has performed as a soloist with Oulu Symphony Orchestra, Lohja City Orchestra, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra and Saimaa Sinfonietta. He is also active as a lied singer. His current lied repertoire includes for example Schubert´s Schwanengesang song cycle, Brahms´s Vier ernste Gesänge, Duparc´s songs and Ravel´s Don Quichotte á Dulcinée song cycle.

He has attended numerous masterclasses, working with artists such as François Le Roux, Martin Katz, Konrad Jarnot, Soile Isokoski, Mikko Franck and Dorothy Irving.

Jussi´s studies and artistic work have been supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, Pro Musica Foundation, Martin Wegelius Foundation and Selim Eskelin Foundation.
