Biography

Baritone Jussi Vänttinen is one of the most sought-after opera singers of his age in Finland.
He won The Lappeenranta Singing Competition in 2019 and made his debut at the Finnish National Opera the following fall. Vänttinen did his soloist debut with the Radio Symphony Orchestra in September 2021 and has also performed as a soloist with the city orchestras of Lappeenranta, Lohja and Mikkeli and The Guards Band.

​In the 2024-2025 season, Jussi will sing the main role of the opera The Ostrobothnians, as well as the male lead of the operetta The Merry Widow at the Finnish National Opera.

Over the past few years, Jussi has performed for example the roles of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, the title role of Don Giovanni, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia, Starveling in A Midsummer Night´s Dream, Ping in Turandot, Jussi in The Ostrobothnians and Young Alexis in Aleksis Kivi.

Vänttinen is also known as a lied singer. His current lied repertoire includes for example F. Schubert´s Schwanengesang song cycle, J. Brahms´s Vier ernste Gesänge, R. Schumann´s Dichterliebe and Liederkreis Op. 24, H. Duparc´s songs and M. Ravel´s Don Quichotte á Dulcinée song cycle. His sacred music repertoire includes  Christmas Oratorio, St. John Passion and St. Matthew Passion by J.S.Bach, Ein deutsches Requeim by Brahms, Requiem by G.Faure, Christmas Oratorio by Saint-Saens and The Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini.

Vänttinen received his MMus at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
