Biography

Juho Punkeri is a young Finnish tenor. He is recognized especially for his aptitude for early music and lied. Because of his musical background and beautiful, lyric voice, he is in demand as an artist and a musician. Juho actively performs as soloist for example with Finnish Baroque Orchestra and Helsinki Baroque Orchestra. Juho is also regularly having his own recitals with pianist Maritta Manner. Together they won the first prize in the Helsinki Lied -competition in 2015.

2016 he graduated from the Sibelius Academy Opera Master’s Programme under the guidance of Erkki Rajamäki. He has also studied with vocal coaches such as Dame Emma Kirkby, Howard Crook, Andreas Schmidt, Elisabeth Werres, Tuuli Lindeberg and Anssi Hirvonen. With lied repertoire Juho has worked with Ilmo Ranta, Hartmut Höll and Martin Katz. His past opera roles are Orfeo (L’Orfeo, C. Monteverdi), Ulisse (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, C. Monteverdi), La Theiérè/Le chat (L’enfant et les sortilèges, M. Ravel), Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte, W. A. Mozart).

In 2017 Juho was a finalist in The International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti in Innsbruck, Austria. In 2013 he won the special prize in the National Lappeenranta singing competition.

Juho’s studies and artistic work have been supported by Pro Musica Foundation, Martin Wegelius Foundation, Selim Eskelin Foundation and Freunde der Salzburger Festspiele in Finnland ry.
