JOONAS ORRAIN

Baritone

Biography

Finnish baritone Joonas Orrain studied at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences under Sirkka Parviainen and the Sibelius Academy where he completed his studies with Irja Auroora and Erkki Rajamäki.

Orrain made his Savonlinna Opera Festival debut as young prisoner in David Pountney’s highly acclaimed production of  ”From the House of the Dead” in 2016 and after that he is regularly engaged as a soloist in Savonlinna. His first role in the Finnish National Opera was Raoul, Vicomte de Chaney in 2021 after which he has appeared as a soloist in several productions. Orrain is also an very active performer in free field productions and has been seen in very different roles in different parts of Finland.

Over the past few years Joonas has performed the roles of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart, Gabriel von Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus by Strauss, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, Kaiser Overall in Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Ullmann and Dancaïro in Carmen by Bizet to name a few.

On the concert platform Joonas has sung the baritone solos in oratorios and symphonies such as Brahms Deutches Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, Bach’s Johannes Passion, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Sibelius’ Kullervo Symphony.

In 2015 Joonas won the First Prize at the Kangasniemi Competition and the Third Prize at the Merikanto Competition. In January 2016 he won the Third Prize at the Lappeenranta Competition.
