Finnish soprano Johanna Isokoski continues to impress and delight audiences with an extraordinary blend of sparkling voice and captivating stage presence. She made her Finnish National Opera debut as Papagena in Barrie Kosky’s and Suzanne Andrade’s famous production of Die Zauberflöte.
Over the last years Ms. Isokoski has performed the roles of Pamina (Mozart: Die Zauberlöte), Frasquita (Bizet: Carmen), Lucia (Britten: The Rape of Lucretia), Tebaldo (Verdi: Don Carlos) and Gretel (Humperdinck: Hänsel et Gretel). She is also known as an interpreter of contemporary music and her repertoire includes among others Döbeln (S. Fagerlund) and Tatjana Pesotski (P.H. Nordgren: Den svarte munken).
She has appeared as a quest soloist in Åbo Svenska Teater, Vaasa Theatre, Jyväskylä Theater and Ilmajoki Music Festival. In the Finnish National Opera Ms. Isokoski has also performed in minioperas for children, Cenerentola (2024 & 2018), Carmen (2023 & 2019), Die Zauberflöte (2022) and Das Rheingold (2020).
Apart from opera, Ms. Isokoski is a renowned oratorial singer. She has performed as soloist in the Requiem by Mozart, Sin deutsces Requiem by Brahms, the St. John’s Passion and Christmas Oratorio by Bach, Messiah by Händel as well as many other masses and cantatas. On the concert platform Ms. Isokoski has appeared with orchestras including Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Turku Philharmonie, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Pori Sinfonietta, Lappeenranta City Orchestra and Neue Philharmonie Westfalen.
Ms. Isokoski’s Festival engagements include appearances at the Turku Music Festival, Heinävesi Music Festival and BarokkiKuopio -festival.
Ms. Isokoski won Second Prize at the 2017 Kangasniemi Singing Contest and additional prizes including Special Prize in Lappeenranta Singing Competition (2016), Soloist of the Lipponen Foundation (2017) and Young Concert Artist Fellowship sponsored by Pro Musica Foundation (2019).
Ms. Isokoski received her MMus at the Sibelius Academy studying under Sirkka Parviainen. She has benefited from extensive artistic advice by Prof. Elisabeth Werres, Prof. Soile Isokoski and Kirsi Tiihonen. Her studies have been sponsored by Selim Eskelin Foundation and Wegelius Foundation.
