The Finn Erik Rousi is known for his powerful, yet at the same time beautiful bass voice. He is very much at home anywhere from lied-music to heavy German operatic repertoire. Mr. Rousi’s genuine interpretations, combined with an interesting voice, have been appreciated by both the public and critics all over Europe. The highlights of Mr. Rousi’s season 17/18 were Daland in the Flying Dutchman (Wien Bezirksfestwochen), Commendatore in Don Giovanni (Israel Chamber Orchestra), Lautsprecher in Der Kaiser von Atlantis (Israel Chamber Orchestra/Connecticut Lyric Opera), recital with Pori Sinfonietta in Finland, performance of Die schöne Müllerin at the Eurajoki Festival, as well as Kaspar in Der Freischütz (version for children/Stadttheater Baden).
From season 18/19 onwards Mr. Rousi will be part of the ensemble in Theater Ulm, where his parts will include Daland in the Flying Dutchman, Admiral in Evita and Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor. In the 18/19 season he will also return to Stadttheater Baden as Rocco in Fidelio. In 2018 he took on the role of artistic director of the Eurajoki Festival in Finland together with a fellow bass Mika Kares.
Erik Rousi is also a frequent interpret of lied-music, where his repertoire covers all the big song cycles of F. Schubert and cycles by R. Schumann. During the season 18/19 Rousi will return to two of his favourite cycles when giving performances of Winterreise by F. Schubert and Dichterliebe by R. Schumann. The coming season he will also expand his lied repertoire with Vier ernste Gesänge by J. Brahms.
Mr. Rousi has studied with prof. KS Angelika Kirchschlager at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (Master of Arts/2018) and with prof. Seppo Ruohonen and prof. Marjut Hannula at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (Bachelor of Arts/2016).
