ERIK ROUSI

Bass

Biography

The Finn Erik Rousi is known for his powerful, yet at the same time beautiful bass voice. He is very much at home anywhere from lied-music to heavy German operatic repertoire. Mr. Rousi’s genuine interpretations, combined with an interesting voice, have been appreciated by both the public and critics all over Europe. The operatic highlights of Mr. Rousi’s season 18/19 are Daland in Der fliegende Holländer (Theater Ulm), Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor (Theater Ulm) and Rocco in Fidelio (Stadttheater Baden).

In 2018, alongside with his career as a singer, Erik Rousi took on the role of artistic director of the Eurajoki Festival in Finland together with a fellow bass Mika Kares. The program of his first season as an artistic director was received extremely well both by the public and the press.

Erik Rousi is also a frequent interpret of lied-music, where his repertoire covers all the big song cycles of F. Schubert and R. Schumann. During the season 18/19 Rousi will return to two of his favourite cycles when giving performances of Winterreise by F. Schubert and Dichterliebe by R. Schumann. The current season he will also expand his lied repertoire with Vier ernste Gesänge by J. Brahms.

Mr. Rousi has studied with prof. Niels Muus and prof. KS Angelika Kirchschlager at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna and with prof. Seppo Ruohonen and prof. Marjut Hannula at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
