Biography

Mezzo-soprano Elli Vallinoja graduated from the Sibelius Academy Vocal Music Department. Her instructors in Sibelius Academy have been e.g. Outi Kähkönen and Marjut Hannula. She has won first prize in the Erkki Melartin competition in Lied series and third prize in Kangasniemi Singing competition, and in summer 2016 in Zinka Milonov competition and in Wilhelm Stenhammar competition she was in the finals.

In the Finnish National Opera Vallinoja has appeared in the roles of Emmie (Albert Herring), Summer girl (Juha), Ida (Die Fledermaus) and Meg Giry (The Phantom of the Opera). She has sung as an opera and concert soloist in Turku Music Festival, Turku City Theatre, Ilmajoki Music Festival, Mänttä Music Festival, and as a young artist in Lemi Music Festival. Elli Vallinoja has also appeared as a soloist with several choirs and for example with Symphony Orchestra of Sibelius Academy and Lohja City Orchestra.

Recent performances have included Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea) at Opéra de Lyon, Opéra de Vichy and Opéra de Versailles. This season Elli Vallinoja will appear as Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and Ines (Il trovatore) in The Finnish National Opera.

Nous avons particulièrement aimé l’interprétation du mezzo-soprano finnois Elli Vallinoja dans le rôle d’Octavie, la femme de Néron, parfaite tant quand elle dessine le rôle de la femme désespérée, que dans celle qui machine l’homicide de Poppée avant d’échouer et d’accepter le raison d’Etat et, donc, l’exil. Une véritable figure sombre qui s’oppose à la lumière terrifiante du mari.
